Knock Museum was this week highly commended in two categories at cross border Museum Awards which were hosted by the Heritage Council, in partnership with the Northern Ireland Museums Council to coincide with International Museums Day.

Athlone Institute of Technology (AIT) will offer 115 free part-time undergraduate college places for unemployed workers in September as part of a labour market activation initiative announced by the Minister for Education and Science, Batt O’Keeffe.

An exhibition of work by artist and AIT lecturer, Margo McNulty, will open at Roscommon Arts Centre on November 19. The exhibition, entitled Imprint, presents a body of work that has been created over the last four years and has been exhibited in part in Cologne, Paris, Louvain, and Poland.

The latest list of feeder schools to third level education published this week shows that the numbers of students who sit their Leaving Certificate and go on to third level education is still very high. One school in the county, St Gerald’s College, Castlebar, had 98 students sit the Leaving Cert in 2009, and according to the report 100 per cent of them went on to third level with NUI Galway the top choice for those students, with 28 going there.
